Flying Stars 2013 | Feng Shui Audit Process | Q&A

1) Compass Reading | HDB | Terrace Houses | Condo.

 Measuring compass degree of your HDB flats & Condominiums is probably one of the most tedious process unlike Terrace and Semi-detached houses. This is due to the irregular structure of the building and unit thus, making it challenging to establish a parallel position when taking direction and compass degree. Therefore, measurement must be taken on all 4 directions of the building (regardless whether it is rectangular, squarish or circular shape) to minimize discrepancy and narrow down the variation in order to establish a more accurate degree facing of your building. Thereafter, proceed to your house or unit for measurement.

Generally, there are many interference within a household such as mobile signal, Wifi, electronic appliances, metallic objects etc. that will affect the compass reading. You can conduct the compass reading experiment by taking the direction and degree at your main door. Thereafter, move back 8-10 steps and compare the readings and variations. Hence, internal compass reading is used to reinforce the external reading.    

2) Plotting the Flying Stars Chart on your floor plan based on the compass degree

After confirmation on your building and unit degree facing, locate the Feng Shui Period of the house. If the building is constructed after 2004, it belongs to Period 8 segment. Based on the confirmed degree facing, e.g. 225 degree, locate the Period 8 chart based on this degree.

Thereafter, establish the center point of your floor plan and then use a compass ruler to plot out the 8 directions. Insert the flying stars of Period 8 based on 225 degree above onto the floor plan.

3) Plotting the flying stars chart onto your master bed room and guest rooms

The last step is to plot out the flying stars for the individual rooms based on the established chart above.

4) Understanding the Flying Star Chart and arriving at cures and remedies

After plotting out a complete chart, it is time to analyze the individual sectors of the chart based on the flying stars combination and effects on each of the sector.

Priority Level on Sectors - Evaluate the individual sector based on the priority below

1) Flying Stars at the Main Building Facing sector
2) Flying Stars at the Main door sector 
3) Flying Stars at the Center sector
4) Flying Stars at the Kitchen or Stove sector
5) Flying Stars at the Room door Sector

2013 Flying Stars Feng Shui Remedies for Chinese New Year! 

Beginning from Feb. 4, 2013, Flying Star 5 (inauspicious star) will move to the center of your house. Many of your are aware the impact Star 5 could bring about when it relocate to center sector, affecting the 8 surrounding sectors like a Ba Gua! But do your also know that the monthly Flying Star, beginning on Feb. 4, is Star 2 and it is joining his buddy.... Flying Star 5?!! And when Yearly Flying Star 5 meets Monthly Flying Star 2....what will be the impact for us in the beginning of this Chinese New Year?

Everyone hopes that the beginning of Chinese New Year will bring prosperity, wealth and good luck for the family especially lottery luck. But with Flying Star 2 (illness star) and Flying Star 5 (inauspicious star for wealth and luck) visiting your house during the Chinese New Year, it might affect our new year luck. So how are we going to deal with these 2 stars?

Firstly, we have to do house cleaning at the center sector and make it neat & tidy. Try to keep the center clear and no overcrowding of books, decorations and cabinets. We don't want a messy center sector to agitate Flying Star 2 & 5 especially during the Chinese New Year period.

Secondly, absolutely no red, orange, pink, purple, yellow, brown and green color items or decorations at this sector! These colors will boost or agitate Star 2 & 5. The biggest Feng Shui taboo is to place a water feature or fish tank at this sector.....it'll expedite, boost & magnify the negative impact that Flying Star 5 & Monthly Star 2 brings about. Hence, strictly no water feature and fish tank at the center of your house!

Lastly, place a white color carpet at the center sector with some coins beneath it. This method will drain away the negativity of Flying Star 5 & 2 as both are Earth Element. Hence, white color cure Star 2 & 5 and metallic items are the remedies to drain earth for this sector. It is the most convenient method and hassle free. You can leave it there for the whole year. But remember to wash the carpet when dirty and smelly! (Please note that metallic items will boost Mountain or Water Stars 6 & 7 that are metal element. If your center sector has both Star 6 & 7, do not place any metallic items to boost its energy. This pair is known as 交剑殺!)

As flying star 5 is classified as an unlucky or disastrous star, it is reinforce by its own element at the center palace, Earth Element Palace or Star 5 Palace, that might bring along negativity. But please take note that it happens once every 9 years so don't be too alarm by it. But you need to know what to avoid to prevent agitating flying star 5.

1) Absolutely no water feature, fish tank or any form of running water at the center of your house, using the floor plan to determine your center sector. Please take note that all the above items will strengthen flying star 5. And if either of the Water or Mountain Star is 2 or 5 or both are present at the center sector then the consequences might be even more severe. The impact might reveal itself on Feb. 4 to March 5 as Monthly Star 2 move to center sector. Yearly flying Star 5 + Monthly flying star 2....be very cautious! And if your toilet or restroom is located at the center of your house, please keep the door close at all time.

2) The above taboo apply to the South-West sector, which Flying Star 2 resides. Take note that Flying Star 5 affects the surrounding sectors, and the negative impact of South-West sector will be magnify by Star 5. Star 2 & 5 is one of the worst combinations for health, wealth & luck. These effects will be more obvious if your main door is located at South-West sector. But only an accredited Feng Shui Master will be able to accurately map out your main door position. But if you can locate the center palace based on your floor plan then you can use a compass to measure your main door facing at the center palace. This is one of the method you can engage in DIY Feng Shui but subject to variation. Please keep the South-West sector clean and neat to avoid agitating flying star 2. No plants outside your main door if it is facing South-West and keep door closed at all time. And absolutely no red, pink, purple, yellow and brown color decoration at the main door. And if your kids or seniors are sleeping in the room that falls under the South-West sector, please keep the window close at most time. Your kids or parents might be able to feel the negative energy of Star 2 now. Hence, place some metallic items near the window to drain away the negative energy. (But please take note that metallic items can boost mountain or water stars Star 6 & 7. These are inauspicious combination that causes conflict, disputes and sometimes legal or contractual issues) Therefore, consult your Feng Shui master before placing the remedies unless you are sure of the sector. Please also take note that South-West is also an earth element palace! Hence, the negative energy of Flying Star 2 will also increases.

What is actually a Feng Shui Audit Report???

I believe some of us had previously engaged Feng Shui Masters to review our House Feng Shui. And in most cases, remedies & cures were delivered verbally without any documentation or report.

I recalled consulting a Feng Shui Master, one of the few consultations I went through, about 12 years ago to review my House Feng Shui. He came in with a compass and start taking the compass reading within the premises. Thereafter, remedies and cures followed immediately without much explanation on his evaluation of my House Feng Shui. As I know nuts about Feng Shui during that time, I blindly followed his instructions....hoping it'll bring me better luck. However, the result was rather disappointing after placing the remedies that the Feng Shui master instructed. Looking back, I realized that it makes no sense to pay so much without even understanding the Feng Shui Analysis of my premises. After going through a few consultations, without any audited report and not yielding any results,...I gave up. I realized that I was not alone.....

Professional and accredited Feng Shui  Masters often provide an Audited Feng Shui report, detailing all the 9 sectors of your house with the Flying Stars report, after the consultation. The report will be based on the floor plan of your house and the Period it was constructed.

Firstly, compass reading will be taken within your house and outside your residence. If you are living in a skyscraper, the external compass reading will be driven from your building facing. Only after the comparison of both readings that the Feng Shui Masters can reduce the degree variation and arrived on a more accurate Degree Facing. (Please note that a 3-4 degree variation might result in a different Xuan Kong Flying Stars Chart.) Please be aware that compass needle is very sensitive to disturbance by Wifi, mobile phone frequency, electric appliances, metallic objects etc. A simple test is to measure your door facing with a compass and then move back 10 steps to take the reading again. Variation applies almost 80% of the time. So how to arrive at an accurate degree by just relying on interior measurement? To be in depth, compass reading on all the 4 corners of the building must be taken to decrease the variation and improves accuracy. There are also external disturbance so avoid taking the measurements near any physical metallic objects such as a vehicles.
 
Plotting the correct chart onto your floor plan followed after confirmation on your building and unit degree facing. The center of your house on the floor plan is firstly identified and then the compass ruler is used to plot the 9 sectors on your floor plan based on the degree facing of your house...not your door facing!!! Thereafter, the Period Chart with the Period Stars, Water Stars, Mountain stars etc. will be inserted onto each of the sectors. Remedies and cures will be delivered on hardcopy report with different cures and remedies based on each of the 9 sectors subjecting to the indivudal palace stars. A full audited report detailing all the 9 sectors and remedies for each sector will be delivered to you on a hardcopy or softcopy based on the Master.

It is based on this Flying Stars Chart that Flying Stars Feng Shui Masters will deliver the remedies and cures for your house. It is based on this chart that you will know whether your house has a good building or door facing! It is based on this chart that your can attempt to verify the accuracy of your house audit by consulting another Accredited Flying Stars Feng Shui Master. It is based on this chart that you can rely on... to Google for yearly remedies & cures. It is this chart that you'll rely on to improve your family's wealth & health energy!

Renovation has an impact on your house based on Xuan Kong Feng Shui methodology. A major renovation might upgrade your house Feng Shui to a different Period that might or might not be auspicious (depending on the Flying Stars chat based on your degree facing). That also explain why the energy of some houses deteriorate or worsen after renovation. While the energy of others improve after the renovation. Let's take a look at the chart below as a comparison on how the renovation will affect your family.

If you observe the 2 charts, Palace Stars and Yearly Flying Stars are not affected at all. But the Mountain Stars & Water Stars differ from the original Period 7 Chart!

Look at the North Sector or the Main Door Facing of the house, notice that it changes from ( 7, 7 ) to ( 7, 9). Water Stars & Mountain Stars are very critical for your house Feng Shui as more weight are placed on this pair. If this pair is Auspicious, it will boost Auspicious yearly flying stars and cushion Inauspicious yearly flying stars! If this pair is Inauspicious, it'll worsen the situation if Inauspicious yearly flying star , e.g. Star 2 or 5, comes to your door or downgrade the energy when Auspicious flying star, Star 8, 9, 1, move to your main door sector.

The upgrading on the Period has affected all sectors of your house as you notice that the Mountain and Water Stars of all sectors have changed. Hence, it is better to understand this basis Feng Shui facts to better prepare yourself for the renovation. Minor renovation will not upgrade your Period. Remember that the 5 principal changes have to be completed before the upgrading can come into effect.

Observe after the upgrading, certain sector turn negative. North West Sector now holds Mountain Star 2 and Water Star 5. As you might know that Mountain Star governs health and you have illness star 2 as the Mountain Star for this sector.....naturally it is inauspicious for health if you or anyone sleeping in this sector. Water Star represent wealth energy, and Star 5 is well known on the negative energy it contains. Therefore, your wealth energy will be affected if you sleep in this sector. If no room is present in this sector and it is not disturbed, you just have to cure it. The energy of this sector might not have significant impact on you or your family.  But do bare in mind that each sector represent a member of your family. I'll review more in my next article.

Life Analysis - 3 Key Aspects

(命)：Typical Life Analysis is based on the 4 pillars of Bazi (DOB). Based on these 4 pillars, generic analysis can be made and subsequently classified into 八字的上格，中格 or 下格. However, it is not conclusive. Please take a look at the image below.

Bazi Analysis Software | 

(运): An individual luck cycle can be generated based on the day he/she was born. The luck cycle is driven from your 4 pillars. The 4 pillars indicate what element you need and when will you be able to meet these elements. Above image is a typical lineup of 10-year cycles after birth. 

Zi Wei Analysis Software

To find out more details of the luck level of a particular 10-year or yearly cycle, Ziwei Analysis is often used. The methodology is driven from the 12 palaces and can determine to a certain extend on how the cause and effect of one palace, affecting the other 11 palaces. Example: Prediction of health on a particular year or career luck for the next few years.


(风水): Feng Shui Analysis is the last aspect and in my opinion, weight only one-third in determining luck cycle. But Feng Shui can act as a booster or multiplier on your luck cycle. Good Feng Shui can boost you when you are going through your good 10-year cycle. Bad Feng Shui can slightly downgrade your good 10-year cycle.....

Hence, only by relying on these 3 key aspects, not conclusive still, that you can still yield a higher probability in forecasting your luck cycle. But these aspects cannot generalize destiny as no methodologies can accurately predict destiny.

As you can tell from the above chart that the main door facing is located at South Sector or Fire Palace. The man door consists of Mountain Star 3 and Water Star 1. The main door welcomes Flying Star 9 in 2013.

1 + 9: auspicious
3 + 9: auspicious

The main door brings auspicious energy for the weak yang fire individual who lacks Fire element in his Bazi. However, Flying Star 5 at the center palace will still generate impact across the 8 surrounding sectors. Hence, remedies are required to drain the negative energy of Flying Star 5.

But the building facing is inauspicious and flying Star 4 will agitate Water Star 5 at South East Sector. Flying Star 5 at the center will also reinforce the Water Star 5 at South-East sector, boosting the negative energy. Therefore, placement of cures are critical to reduce the impact.

The building backend or North West sector is also not auspicious. Water Star 7 & Flying Star 6 formed an desirable pair that can cause significant impact to the career bringing potential disputes and legal implication. (9+7) has the potential to cause minor fire hazard also depending on when Flying Star 2 enter that palace.

Many people spent hundreds or thousands on Feng Shui consultation alone. Some even went to the extend of altering the exterior or interior structure of their premises to improve luck or energy. However, after spending thousands and thousands of dollars on renovation and still unable to see the return on their investments, some individuals begin to question the effectiveness of Feng Shui. So how effective is Feng Shui really?

In this industry, there are too many Feng Shui institutions and too many variations on the Feng Shui methodologies. Each institution has its own theory, analysis and approach to Feng Shui. There is no form of unity and consistency on the fundamental principles of Feng Shui even within the same Feng Shui category.

Feng Shui principles, analysis and solutions can actually be quantify and not just relying on qualitative approach. Feng Shui analysis is based on the accumulation of various case studies across a period of time to achieve a higher probability scale on the cause and effect of Feng Shui. Across centuries, accumulation of sample size can be quantify to a certain degree in establishing a correlation on the  cause and effects of Feng Shui. However, many institutions are reluctant and unwilling to publish their methodologies and findings thus, restricting the unity and conformity of Feng Shui. This mindset is still present till today therefore, reinforcing skepticism towards Feng Shui.

There are many feng shui publications but yet, even the basic principles on Feng Shui vary from books to books. And often, analysis and solutions are often confusing and debatable. Still, many Feng Shui practitioners are placing expensive price tags on their consultation services. In many cases, no hard copies of the Feng Shui audits were ever given to clients. Hence, many Feng Shui audits and remedies was delivered verbally without any documentation. Without a hard copy audit report of your house Feng Shui, many people have to keep going back to same practitioner. And often, no follow ups on the effectiveness of those remedies & cures were rendered. Most practitioners argued that the effects of these remedies might need up to 6 months to create positive results.

In conclusion, Feng Shui believers have to choose wisely to yield the best result of their house feng shui! And for non-believers, who have the spare cash and willing to give it a try....managing your expectation is important cause Feng Shui will not make you rich  or turn you into a millionaire. But good Feng Shui can bring harmony to your home and improve health & wealth. Result is subjective!

1) There are many Feng Shui methodologies present today. The 3 popular types and wide spread Feng Shui methodologies are "San Yuan （三元）" also know as Xuan Kong Flying Stars, "San He （三合家）" and "Ba Zhai (八宅)". Know what type of Feng Shui you are consulting.

2) Find out whether the Feng Shui services include a full audit report in hard copy version. The report will be use as a reference and for verification purposes on the accuracy of the audit. The report will be useful if you decide to consult another master on the accuracy.

3) Good to know whether any after sales service when all Feng Shui remedies and cures are placed as advised by the Master. The effects can occur within 4-8 weeks. Hence, follow ups are often required for verification and if charges apply...it's good to be aware.

4) Xuan Kong Feng Shui or San Yuan Feng Shui address the energy of your premises based on the 5 elements. Hence, commercial merchandises are not practical and remedies used do not require "Kai Guang 开光". Btw, what is the definition of  开光? Isn't it part of Taoism? Unless the Master is well versed in Taoism or else it doesn't mean anything in my perspective.

5) Understand that the compass is very sensitive to disturbance from Mobile phone signals, electrical appliances, WiFi, metallic objects etc. Hence, compass reading done internally must be accompany by external measurement to get a more consistent & accurate degree be averaging out the variations. This is very critical as 2-3 degree variation in Xuan Kong Feng Shui can causes different impact! As for Ba Zai, it uses the eight directions to establish the analysis. Hence, the degree proximity will be larger than Xuan Kong Feng Shui.

6) Please do your own online research and understand important information on different type of Feng Shui. Choose the Feng Master wisely and manage your expectation. Go through reviews and ask as many questions as possible during the audit. I have seen and heard many individuals discrediting Feng Shui because it did not achieve their objectives. Therefore, understanding what Feng Shui can or cannot do will help you make an informed decision before jumping into it. 

7) The quality of the audit is seldom pack to a higher price tag. In my opinion, a full audit report with remedies should be a good start in evaluating the accuracy of the house feng shui. Accredited Feng Shui Masters that provide a full audit report are confident of their analysis and subject their audit report to verification, consistency and challenge by other Accredited Feng Shui Masters in the same category.  

8) There are some individuals that attempt to mystify the methodology of Xuan Kong Feng Shui and create more variations. That will only drift further away from the originality & fundamental principles of Xuan Kong Feng Shui. Please exercise discretion and cautiousness in your decision when engaging Xuan Kong Feng Shui.

Flying Star Analysis

The fundamental principles of Xuan Kong Feng Shui are driven from the 9 stars. Each star represent one of the 5 elements and has a Ying or Yang association. The different combinations of these stars will either generate cohesiveness or opposing forces. Therefore, it is critical to understand the basic on how the flying stars system originates.

There are a total of 9 palaces & 9 Periods in Xuan Kong Feng Shui study (1 Period = 20 years). Below is a detail breakdown.

Technically, there are a total of 59,049 combinations based on the above charts. However, there are same similarity among the totality of the charts and stars' positions at Section A should be consider as a single identity instead of 9 due to the fixed palace position. Hence, the number of combinations are reduced to 6,561 charts. But there are certain circumstances that causes Mountain & Water stars to adapt a reverse sequencing (逆飞), known as 反吟, instead of the original sequencing (顺飞) . Hence, the number of charts are increased. In practice, most Feng Shui Masters focus more on the Period x (Mountain and Water Stars) combinations to deliver cures and remedies. Therefore, the usable charts should be around 700-800 based on the 9 Periods but subject to the individual institution methodology.

Please take note completion date of the constructed property is used to establish the Period of the building thereafter, section A, B & C above are formed and it'll be permanent. These sections will not change unless a major renovation on your house covering the 5 aspects are met. And the renovation has to been done in a different period and confirmed by accredited Feng Shui Masters that it'll generate a more auspicious facing after upgrading the period. In 中州派玄空风水, there is another methodology that enable migration to the next period, Period 9 in this case,  known as 城門决。However, certain criteria has to be met in order to facilitate the upgrading.

The flying stars are more dynamic and changes every year. (Please refers to the flying star sequencing in my earlier post for reference). Hence, if your building and main door facing are both auspicious than the yearly flying star will boost your energy in good years and cushion your negativity in bad years. (Please take note that reverse sequencing (逆飞) cannot be applied onto the Yearly Flying Stars. By default, it is using the original sequencing (顺飞) regardless whether 反吟 or 伏吟.  

No physical structure can retain its energy permanently. Once the energy of the building is depleted across time, it'll loose it's auspiciousness.. The lifespan of the energy level depends greatly on the period the structure was constructed. Example; Building A is constructed in period 7 then its energy lifespan is around 80 years! Hence, it is critical to know when your house was constructed in order to plot out the Xuan Kong Feng Shui chart of your house.

What Feng Shui cannot do for you?

1) Firstly, Feng Shui cannot turn you into a millionaire! That is the fact and no Feng Shui Masters dare to make such claims now and in the future. Thus, manage your expectation on Feng Shui ROI.

2) Secondly, Feng Shui does not guaranteed lottery luck but only increase the auspicious energy.

3) Thirdly, Feng Shui is unable to remove the spiritual energy, if any, present within the premises. Therefore, never confuse between Flying Stars Feng Shui and Spiritual Feng Shui.

4) Feng Shui merchandises might not be practical and cost-effective on increasing your wealth and career luck. Evaluate the ROI first before making such decision on costly feng shui merchadises.

6) Don't expect Feng Shui to do miracles for you! But it can improve the harmonious energy within your premises.

1) Good Feng Shui can increase the auspicious energy within you. Thus, enhancing your career, wealth, health and lottery luck. As mentioned earlier, the incremental degree varies. But a good feng shui house can do more good than harm.

2) Good Feng Shui can generate auspicious energy and bring harmony to the family. It is likely to boost harmony and decrease conflicts, arguments, disagreement etc.

3) Good Feng Shui can cushion the inauspicious energy when you are going through a bad luck cycle. Thus, minimizing any negative impact on the owner and his/her family.

Wealth Star & Health Star in Xuan Kong Feng Shui

Many people are familiar with the flying stars and often obtain the yearly chart online or via some publications. Those individuals that had obtained an audit report from accredited Feng Shui Master would better understand both the Health & Wealth Stars provide a detailed hard copy of the report is given to you.

So what is Wealth Star? Water Stars, in the Xuan Kong Feng Shui perspective, are categorized as the stars governing wealth & income generation. And are driven based on the period where your house or building is constructed, same apply to Mountain Stars. Combined with the facing angles or degree of your house and building, qualified Feng Shui Masters would be able to generate the Xuan Kong Feng Shui chart of your house.

Water Stars: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
In Period 8 (2004-2023), Water stars 8, 9 & 1 are considered the most auspicious stars. Even inauspicious water stars 2 or 5 can gain wealth energy in its own period. Example: In Period 2, water star 2 is the most auspicious star. However, once the period is over....it'll revert back to the origin classification of an "illness star".

If your audited feng shui report indicates an auspicious water star at your main door facing, then it is good for wealth or income generation in generic term. However, the degree of wealth or income generation varies, depending on whether you are self-employed or an employee. In general, income generation should be above average. But good wealth doesn't mean good health.

(Water Stars doesn't mean that all the 9 Water Stars are classified as water element.)

Mountain Stars: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9   

In Period 8 (2004-2023), Mountain stars 8, 9 & 1 are considered the most auspicious stars, using the same methodology that apply to Water Stars. In general, Mountain Stars 2 & 5 are not auspicious for health. As mentioned before, children and seniors are more sensitive to the effects of Mountain Stars 2 & 5. If flying star 2 or 5 join the alliance then the negative effects will accelerate. Please note that star 2 & 5 are "Earth element" regardless whether they are Water, Mountain or Flying Stars. Any red, orange, brown, purple, yellow colors etc at the sector these 2 stars reside would boost its energy.


(Mountain Stars doesn't mean that all the 9 Mountain Stars are classified as earth element.)

Mountain & Water Stars are permanent components in Xuan Kong Feng Shui unlike Flying Stars. It is driven from the Period your house or building is being constructed. There are ways to alter the Mountain and Water Stars. Leave a comment if you need more information.
